The photo above is that of National Geographic’s photographer Paul Nicklen taking a photo shot of the beautiful and breathtaking ice formation at Skagway, Alaska, USA. The beautiful site is a reminder to us nature lovers, governments and opinion leaders to take a cue in the subject of global warming and its associated threats to the sustainability of our environment.
As an individual and a lover of nature who constantly supports efforts aimed at environmental conservation and preservation, I am motivated to use this picture and several others in educating the citizenry on the negative impact of human activities that contributes to Global Warming, a scientific fact whose impact can result in the meltdown of ice such as this one at Skagway, Alaska and thereby negatively impact the environment.
With the Southern Ocean alone, absorbing as much as 75 percent of the excess heat, and 40 percent of the carbon dioxide created by human activities, floating ice shelves are melting rapidly, raising concerns about the sudden, uncontrollable sea level rise, a recipe for greater catastrophe in time to come.
"A luta continua, vitória é certa" -- from Portuguese to English -- "The struggle continues, victory is certain".

DeleteHi Aluta,
ReplyDeleteThat image is just breathtaking. To be there in person sounds like a dream of mine. I have always wanted to visit Alaska and when I do I'll make sure I visit this place and read up on plenty of our global warming issues. Thank you so much for your input!!
Hi Aluta! I like how you did the task of creating a blog post and raising awareness at the same time. As a nature lover, I would like to thank you for raising awareness on how human activities have negative impacts that contributes to the global warming.
ReplyDeleteHi Aluta! I love your take on the assignment. Global warming is such a prevalent issue and is important that we help bring further awareness to the problem. I'm looking forward to seeing more on this topic on your blog!
ReplyDeleteHi Aluta! This is a great topic for a blog! The most beautiful things on earth are free and we need to preserve them as much as possible. I am interested in learning more about what's happening in Alaska. I've seen a few videos on YouTube about its changing climate. I'm also curious about the nature of Earth's animals... I recently learned that lionesses now have manes, several of them. Environmental science, animal studies, and human interference are very interesting subjects. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHello Aluta!

ReplyDeleteHi Aluta,
ReplyDeleteI am also very interested into climate change and the impact that us humans are containing in our environment. I tend to go on long rant about global warming and climate change to family and friends around me, to the point that most of them kind of already know how much I love talking about it. I'm glad to know you share my passion. Also the picture above is absolutely stunning and definitely reigniting my spark to travel to Alaska. Thank you so much for your insight and I can't wait to read everything else you provide us with your blog!!
Great to know we share similar interests and passion. We have but one habitable world and it is incumbent on us to protect it not only for our survival but that of all flora and fauna.
DeleteHi Aluta, that is a beautiful picture that you have posted up. I'm very interested in nature now Alaska is definitely one of the places I would love to visit, and scratch off my bucket list.
ReplyDeleteHi Aluta,
ReplyDeleteGlobal warming is a concern for everyone. Any environmental changes to ecosystems affect wildlife and in turn our existence. Permanent effects can have devastating consequences for the future. Many people invoke the Roman Warm Period as an argument against global warming but fail to realize that it was a localized warming of the Mediterranean region. Long lasting but localized. Keep your passion for educating people on Global Warming and good luck with your college studies.
Hello Aluta, I also find global warming is becoming a issue, and I believe that everyone needs to be reminded to help save the ground beneath our feet.
ReplyDeleteHey Aluta, Its nice to see that there are things we as people can do to help reduce climate change!
ReplyDeleteHi Aluta! As another person who loves being outdoors I agree with you about needing to take care of our planet. Especially since it is the place we all call home.
ReplyDeleteHello Aluta, the earth is truly beautiful and I believe that we should take good care of it, after all we only have one of it.
ReplyDeleteHello Aluta, I agree with you that we need to take good care of it.
ReplyDeleteHi Aluta, I also love nature and if we each do our part it can make a difference in taking care of our planet.
